Hophei Tower, 2004

A galvanised steel construction, laser-engraved glass, LED edge lighting, programmed coloured light sequences, loop 14 min.

The walk-in light sculpture offers visitors a view of the still visible scar of a former residential building on the Hophei Tower opposite.

Installation view: the boundary wall between the Theodorianum and Langenohlgasse, Paderborn 2004

Today, on the Hophei Tower, opposite the courtyard wall of the Theodorianum in Paderborn, traces of the former residential building can still be seen quite clearly on the brickwork. The roof’s mortar and stone remain and appear like a triangular symbol. These traces have been chosen as a formal point of reference for a walk-in light installation. Taking the form of a simple hut, the installation reflects on the gable motif and has been erected as a walk-in light sculpture on the existing boundary wall between Theodorianum and Langenohlgasse. The new view from the visitor platform gives those visitors who climb up the wall both an insight into the secluded garden and a conscious view of the house, which no longer exists having been destroyed in the Second World War.
