Wall installation; consisting of 8 glass panels, EL light foil, cables, ballast electronics Total size: 200 × 350 × 87 cm
Untitled – Electroluminescent installation, 1992
Installation view: Collection of the Kunstmuseum Thun, Thun (CH), 1992
Eight glass panels, each measuring 130 × 40 cm, are covered on both sides with electroluminescent film – they glow blue on the front and a lighter turquoise green on the back. The panels are mounted on pins on the wall, tilted slightly forward. Electrical cables hold them in this position and also supply the illuminated surfaces with power..
The EL foils were created in collaboration with a screen printing company.
With its double-sided construction and the separation of light colours between the front and back, the work is one of Daniel Hausig’s early explorations into the continuation of painting with electric light.
The interplay of individual modules, light colour and space forms a fragile structure whose apparent stability and depth is further pursued in the artist’s later groups of works.
The work was first presented in 1992 at the group exhibition “Querschnitt ist tot, es lebe der Querschnitt” (The cross-section is dead, long live the cross-section) and was subsequently purchased for the collection of the Kunstmuseum Thun.
